Reception of the quality assurance commitments of the Bologna process in Finnish higher education institutions

AbstractThis article analyses Finnish higher education institutions’ reception of the implementation of the new quality assurance systems that governments participating in the Bologna Process have committed to establishing in the Berlin Communique of 2003. The data were collected using a web survey and the respondents were classified with a cluster analysis. The reception was more positive in the polytechnics than in the research universities and women were more positive than men. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate inter-industry labor mobility, paying special attention to workers who move into high-tech (HT) sectors or knowledge-intensive business services (KIBSs). This study inquires whether skilled workers are mobile and whether the characteristics of mobile workers support the effective transfer of knowledge across industries. Abstract I study the effect of an education leave subsidy for the employed on labor-market outcomes and educational attainment using Finnish administrative linked employer-employee panel data and matching methods. The adult education allowance is available to employees with at least eight years of work experience and allows them to take a leave for 2–18 months to participate in an education program while being compensated for a substantial part of their forgone earnings. I find large positive treatment effects on educational attainment and changing occupation. Purpose – The aim of this study is to investigate how male managers make meaning the role of their female spouses along with their careers. Design/methodology/approach – The topic was investigated within a Finnish context by analyzing the narratives of 29 male managers. Common to the men were their managerial position and extensive work experience. All the men had or had had one or more spouses during their careers, and all of them were fathers. The increase of education in younger generations and the relative scarcity of qualified jobs available for them makes overeducation of young employees a social issue. We explored the relationships between overeducation and job satisfaction (extrinsic, intrinsic, social facet), as well as the direct and moderating role of salary, contract of employment, and work experience in these relationships using hierarchical regression analyses. How useful are incubators for new entrepreneurs?

This study examines profiles of incubator tenants who provide the most positive evaluations of the use of advisory services and support from incubators. The study presents an application of qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) to a sample of 54 incubator tenants in Valencia, Spain. The study examines how entrepreneurs' age, gender, education and training, work experience, and family background affect the utility of advice and support from experts at the incubator. The results of the research inform that the incubator tenants who find the services of incubators most useful are young, have good studies, have professional experience, and have family experience.

Abstract Purpose To examine nursing knowledge and confidence of peripheral intravenous catheter insertion and maintenance in pediatric patients. Design and methods An online survey using validated questionnaires was conducted in ten (tertiary and district) hospitals in Indonesia from May to September 2020. Multivariable general linear models were used to investigate associations between nurses' characteristics and knowledge and confidence on the catheter insertion and maintenance score.
